FDR Medical Services |
The Assurance Of
Training and Experience.
In 1999, during their final year
in emergency medicine residency program, Michael Filice
and Gregory DiFrancesco formed FDR medical services and
after partnering with Brooks Memorial Hospital began
staffing that emergency department in July 2000. A few
years later, in 2003, FDR acquired the emergency service
contract at United Memorial Medical Center, and at that
time, current partners Scott Belote, Danielle Notebaert,
and Lori Michael joined the group. It was a unique and
attractive situation wherein rural hospitals had
staffing almost exclusively of residency trained
emergency physicians.
In 2005 a new emergency department was being planned at
Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Niagara Falls had
brought in many groups to discuss staffing
options,
including both local and national groups. In the end the
contract was given to FDR due to the past success and
commitment toward staffing emergency departments with
residency trained emergency physicians.
In 2006 FDR added 5 members of the 2007 emergency
medicine residency class. Each year the Buffalo program
graduates 12 residents and in the past many have left
the WNY area. EM graduates who elect to stay local have
understandably been highly recruited and FDR has been
very successful in hiring these physicians.
In 2008 FDR agreed to a contract with DeGraff Memorial
Hospital in North Tonawanda, New York. We currently
provide staffing for the Emergency Department in this
suburb of Buffalo. During the summer of 2008 the
facility completed a significant remodeling that
increased the square footage of the Emergency
Department, and gave it a contemporary look and feel.
With the addition of DeGraff, FDR now has a combined
patient volume over 80,000 visits per year.
In November of 2009, their first urgent care center
opened its doors in Pittsford, New York, a suburb of
Rochester. This project was headed by Dr. DiFrancesco,
Dr. Filice, and Dr. Gorman. It is the first in a series
of urgent care centers that is planned by FDR. Called
ExcelCare, it is located at 3400 Monroe Avenue across
from the Pittsford Plaza. The center has on-site
radiology and laboratory testing, and is staffed with
board certified physicians, RN’s, and radiology
technicians.
Also in 2009, FDR expanded its role in medical
education. It entered an affiliation with LECOM school
of osteopathic medicine to provide high quality
Emergency Medicine learning experiences for medical
students at all four hospitals. A rotation was also
added in the Emergency Department at DeGraff Memorial
Hospital for S. U. N. Y. at Buffalo medical students.
We have been successful in offering the highest level of
trained emergency specialists to the hospitals we staff
for several reasons: (1) FDR is a democratic group that
gives all our physicians a voice. (2) FDR is involved
with the SUNY Buffalo emergency medicine residency. Each
resident spends one month during his first year of
training at Brooks for a rural emergency medicine
rotation. (3) We offer our physicians an excellent
compensation package with NO BUY-IN for partnership.
Western New York
The Western New York area offers a wide range of
recreational activities. There are three professional
sports teams in Buffalo with the Sabres of the National
Hockey League, the Bills of the National Football
League, and our triple A baseball team, the Bison’s. FDR
currently has season’s tickets with four seats to every
Buffalo Sabres game that are shared by our physicians
and staff.
Buffalo is also home to Shea’s Performing Arts Theater
which hosts many acclaimed musicals and shows. Past
performances include Chicago, Jesus Christ Superstar and
Melissa Etheridge. This season alone Shea’s will have
Mama Mia, Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas Spectacular,
Legally Blonde the Musical, The Wizard of Oz, and A
Chorus Line.
The area also is home to many outdoor activities with
Lake Erie and Ontario just minutes away, and many
championship golf courses and country clubs. Holiday
Valley is rated ninth among ski resorts in the East by
Ski Magazine and is only an hour to the south of Buffalo
in beautiful Ellicottville, New York.
